On October 17 and 23, 2024, the Russian Embassy in Romania organized an exhibition and lectures at the Russian Club (Clubul Rus) in Bucharest, dedicated to the life and work of Ilya Repin, one of the most prominent Russian artists of the late 19th century and a key figure in Russian realist painting.
This cultural and educational project was implemented with the support of the State Tretyakov Gallery.
During video lectures translated into Romanian and provided by the State Tretyakov Gallery, guests had the opportunity to explore the main stages of Repin's life and career, his views on art, and the creation stories behind his iconic works, including Barge Haulers on the Volga, They Did Not Expect Him, Religious Procession in Kursk Province, Ivan the Terrible and His Son Ivan, and The Zaporozhian Cossacks Write a Letter to the Turkish Sultan. The lectures also highlighted his unique approach to portraiture and historical scenes that reflect the sentiments of the Russian creative intelligentsia of the post-reform era.
The exhibition will also be presented to guests attending the premiere screening of the feature film Onegin, scheduled to be shown at the Embassy on October 24, 2024.
