On October 30-31, 2024, the President of the Romanian-Russian Chamber of Economic and Cultural Cooperation, Tudor Afanasov, participated in the Old Believers Forum held in Kazan, Russia, at the invitation of the Metropolitanate of the Russian Orthodox Old Believer Church and the Archdiocese of Kazan of the Russian Orthodox Old Believer Church. This major event focused on preserving and promoting the traditional family and cultural values of Old Believers worldwide, bringing together participants from various Old Believer communities.


In his speech, Tudor Afanasov emphasized the importance of preserving the cultural identity and family values of the Russian Old Believers in Romania, highlighting their role in strengthening intercultural and interreligious ties between Romania and Russia. "The Russian Old Believer community in Romania, present on these lands for centuries, is a vivid example of transmitting spiritual and cultural values from generation to generation, despite modern challenges," he stated.


The President of the Romanian-Russian Chamber of Economic and Cultural Cooperation stressed the necessity of unity among Old Believers worldwide, noting that only through cohesion and cooperation between communities can traditions be preserved, young generations supported, and constructive intercultural dialogue developed.
During the event, Tudor Afanasov promoted the "Circle of Old Believer Entrepreneurs," an initiative launched by the Romanian-Russian Chamber. This platform aims to support the economic development of young Old Believer entrepreneurs and assist Old Believer communities in various countries by creating a resource cluster dedicated to preserving cultural heritage and supporting large families.


The forum in Kazan provided an excellent opportunity for exchanging experiences and launching joint projects among Old Believer communities globally, aiming to promote traditional values. Tudor Afanasov highlighted that international dialogue and cooperation are essential for Old Believers everywhere, and the active involvement of communities can help strengthen ties between Russia and the countries where these communities reside.
