Tudor Afanasov, the President of the Romanian-Russian Chamber of Commerce, conducted an official visit to Russia from October 27 to November 6, 2024, at the invitation of the Russian Orthodox Old Believers’ Metropolitan and the Financial and Banking Association of Euro-Asian Cooperation (FBA EAS), headed by Li Shuobing. This visit included participation in three major events and a series of business meetings aimed at strengthening economic and cultural ties between Romania and Russia.
The first event was the National Old Believers’ Forum, held in Kazan on October 29-30. Tudor Afanasov delivered a significant speech emphasizing the value of Orthodox traditions and the role of Old Believer communities in preserving Russian cultural identity. The forum provided a platform to discuss the future of these communities in a globalized world.
In Moscow, on October 30-31, Tudor Afanasov participated in the VIII World Congress of Russian Compatriots, gathering prominent members of the Russian diaspora. In his address, Afanasov highlighted the importance of cultural and spiritual bonds between the Russian diaspora and Russia as a foundation for supporting shared identity and values.
On November 1, Tudor Afanasov was invited to participate in the Assembly of the "Russian World" in Moscow, an event dedicated to promoting Russian culture and spirituality internationally. In his speech, Afanasov discussed the role of Orthodoxy and the importance of traditional Russian values in the face of global challenges, expressing his support for the unity of the Russian cultural community.
On November 5-6, Tudor Afanasov held business meetings with FBA EAS President Li Shuobing and other top business leaders in Russia, where they discussed global economic changes and Romania’s potential role in these developments. Afanasov emphasized that the Romanian business community seeks to play an active part in new economic opportunities and proposed organizing an international economic forum in Bucharest in December. This forum would bring together business leaders and officials from BRICS countries and other emerging economies, fostering new partnerships.
